The Catalog of Federal Domestic Assistance

This mighty two volume book “is a government-wide compendium of Federal programs, projects, services, and activities that provide assistance or benefits to the American public. It contains financial and non-financial assistance programs administered by departments and establishments of the Federal government.”

It contains a wealth of opportunities for federal funds for activities ranging from overseas doctoral dissertations (84.022) to coal mine workers’ compensation (17.307). It lists the agencies responsible for the assistance the objectives and the eligibility requirements. The volume also contains the contact information for the local offices of all the agencies responsible for assistance detailed in the volume.
In addition to this worthy volume the GPO also maintains an excellent webpage with all of this information.

You can search federal assistance programs by subject, agency and by assistance type. It’s a great place to look whenever starting a new project. You may share an aim with the federal government and be able to receive some kind of material assistance.

The first step to getting help from Uncle Sam is knowing help is available!
